In our modern society, we have grown so disconnected from how our food is grown. In our new weekly series, ‘How Food Grows,’ we are going to be sharing more about where healthy food comes from, starting with apples that grows on TREES. We really want all of our readers to understand the origin of what you eat. It’s about time!
Some interesting apple facts:
-It can take from 4-10 years for some trees to produce their first fruit on an apple tree!
– There are around 2,500 varieties of apples grown in the U.S.
– Apples are also considered the cousins of roses. Can you believe that?!
– Apple trees can live to be about 100 years old.
– It takes the energy of 50 leaves to produce one apple.
– 25% of the volume of an apple is air, which is why they float.
